Between 4-5am this morning was my unluckiest hour of my day. My Google mail account was compromised and sent an email to numerous contacts and non contacts of mine. In humiliation, I replied and informed them that it was not actually me. In frustration, I removed my entire Google Account that has been with me for the past 9 years. My other Google services such as analytics and my $64 adsense money dissappers (well forget the money). After spending time investigating why and how it was happened I found the actual conclusion- The Firefox-Thunderbird-Gmail Vulnerability! What an asshole.
Well things have already happened. Its a mistake that should be thought and as much as possible avoided. If they ask you again to “Are you sure you want to save you password?” don’t think twice. Think once. Because “Once” you get caught.. don’t blame me.
PS: For those people affected by the email. My account was not “really” compromised as I also thought that my password was guessed. Its just that the malware was using my un-prompted password mail client and sends email automatically. Besides removing my Gmail accout. I also removed Thunderbird and switched back to web based. Of course, I scanned my PC.
