PLDT port 25

For those people who lost most of their hair due to scratching the head trying to fix their mail client app (or to cut short, sending emails)…. this article is just for you.

Its been months that I couldn’t able to send email from outside using port 25 or SMTP standard port and figuring out what is the cause and problem of this only to found out from another article/blog (I googled, duh) that PLDT actually blocks this port because of this statement (less words means less grammar error, so please continue reading this issue in this PLDT site.)

Who the f@ck!ng you are, telling all SMTP servers around the internet world to obligatorily changed their SMTP port to 587?. Although your will is good, but hey there’s a million servers out there fixing other things (their other internal problems) who really doesn’t care if those single or a tens or hundreds of people can’t send and use their email because their ISP blocks the standard port. Can I, a simple person (not even a CEO I think) to tell the company’s I.T manager to please change your SMTP to 587 because my ISP blocks 25 and I can’t use it to send an mail. Do you think they will listen? how about those remaining millions of SMTP servers communicating only on a single SMTP port 25 and not 587? Do you think they will sacrifice on it? come on pal, there’s other things to be done to prevent spamming? please guys (PLDT I.T security division) use all of your possible brain cells. I heard that there’s a thing called brain storming (from the word itself)?

Don’t worry, your not alone on this problem? I myself is also a systems administrator and I really hate spam also. There’s other academic institutions and I.T companies spending billions of dollars on research to fight spamming. I know you wouldn’t spend that much but please port 25 is still (you want it to accept or not) the most common SMTP port or Mail Protocol for sending and receiving emails (don’t argue about IMAP and POP3 okay)!

Better than Worst!

After investing for the new server and network infastructure…

Here goes again, The worst ISP I ever subscibed for- GLOBELINES (http://www.globelines.com.ph/).

Several weeks of having Imminent connections, downtimes lasting for at least 6 hours and connection speed of 3 kilobyte per second!!!(possibly faster than morse code itself if digitized). Even their technical/customer service support is a piece of shit and doesn’t know anything but to tell you that they will write a report about the incident. Too much for this.

I decided to stop my subscription with them even I was still on a year bond, don’t worry globeliness I will also return your free cheap lexmark printer that doesn’t have any ink when you gave it to me!

GLOBELINES…. what can I say about them.

Another server load

I finished installing and configuring ffmpeg, mplayer and ffmpeg-php after 2 days of massive research and trial-errors.

other improvements in the server:

- I wrote my first PERL script about interfacing my DSL modem (tru telnet, sorry hackers, I secured my firewall so that the port will not leak outside my network .hahaha) ability to disconnect my dsl modem connection at certain time(time is secret).

-checked and clean unnecessary configurations, files, bootup scripts and caches to speedup the server by 0.0000000000001%. :)

-perform my ritual full hardrive backup after adding two more hosted websites.
